Cosmetic procedures were once considered only invasive and often complex surgeries. As the cosmetic medical field continues to progress, the popularity of both invasive and non-invasive cosmetic procedures is growing. Where cosmetic surgery used to be an all or nothing proposition, tweakments have recently emerged at the other end of the spectrum.
So what are tweakments exactly and why have they become so popular in recent years? Today, we will explore this question by defining tweakments, identifying the primary appeal of tweakments when compared to more conventional, invasive cosmetic procedures, and review some common examples of non-invasive “tweakment” procedures.
Defining Tweakment Cosmetic Procedures
Tweakment is a loose term for cosmetic procedures which has been described as being more subtle and more natural than more dramatic cosmetic procedures. Tweakments can be thought of as non-invasive procedures which are more noticeable than simple surface makeup application but less noticeable than cosmetic surgeries.
Modern beauty trends are as stringent as ever. Yet they are moving away from the exaggerated beauty standards such as excessively large augmentations and disproportionate contouring. While we believe that the individual should make whatever decision makes them happy with their body, the industry has recently undergone a marked shift towards a more natural look.
Tweakments could be wrongly confused for just another term for non-invasive cosmetic procedures. In reality, they are more akin to the least invasive of all non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Non-invasive procedures such as non-surgical rhinoplasty are examples of cosmetic procedures that probably toe this line. Of course, tweakments are just industry jargon and the actual definition does not carry any significant weight.
Tweakments are Gaining Popularity
No two individuals are exactly alike. That goes without saying. Yet there are certain realities that hold true for the majority of individuals who are seeking potential cosmetic surgery. These primarily come down to:
- The individual would like to make an alteration to their physical appearance.
- The individual would like that change to be cost-friendly, as pain free as possible, and carry little to no recovery time.
- The individuals want a new look without the procedure being overtly obvious.
Tweakments offer all of the above in spades. The popularity of non-invasive cosmetic procedures including coolsculpting, botox, and more has been largely thanks to shifting beauty trends and technological advancements. Going back to the example of the non-surgical rhinoplasty, the results may be temporary, but they often look as impressive as traditional surgical procedures.
This idea of impermanence offers another unique advantage of many tweakments: flexibility. Traditional cosmetic procedures carry a higher risk of regret as they are permanent and sometimes irreversible without additional surgeries. While some may view the temporary nature of tweakments as a con, many view this as a way to make enhancements without the risk of a lifelong commitment.
Examples of Tweakments in 2020
Botox for non-invasive facial shaping
Botox is perhaps the most well-known of all tweakments. Despite its status as a stalwart of non-invasive cosmetic procedures, Botox has also evolved with the times. A new B-2 type toxin offers lengthier results, a more comfortable look, and requires fewer dosages in smaller amounts. Botox injections are a great example of tweakments as they can be tailored to the needs of the individual and do not require any recovery time.
Dermal fillers for fuller, younger looking skin
Another very popular options for non-invasive tweakments are dermal fillers. These quick and relatively painless procedures use injections to fill out facial skin which fights against wrinkles, fine lines, and visible signs of aging. These injections also work as humectants, drawing water from within the body to the skin’s surface. Dermal fillers may also be used to help fill out lips or other trouble areas.
Chemical peels for clear skin
Chemical peels may not even feel like a cosmetic procedure, but they are actually a prime example of a non-invasive tweakment. Chemical peels use chemical exfoliation to remove excess oil, dirt, and debris from the surface of skin. Where you might be able to buy chemical exfoliants at the drugstore, properly administered chemical peels from a professional can yield incredible results.
There can be no question that tweakments are just that: tweaks. Where invasive cosmetic surgeries aim to solve major problems like breast resurfacing and major fat loss, tweakments aim to make smaller adjustments which offer noticeable but natural appearing results.
