There is one thing for sure in the world of laser innovation. It is fast moving and ever evolving. It can be hard to keep up with all of the latest, even if just in the limited field that is health and beauty. That said, we are not suggesting at all that health and beauty are uncomplicated topics in laser medicine. In fact the field of laser medicine and aesthetics is super complex and as innovative with skin tightening and dermatologist-led procedures as one can imagine.
One of the best ways that any practitioner can stay abreast of the changes in technology and the trends that follow them, is to stay plugged into the industry. TSLMS offers the opportunity for its members, and the public, to do just that.
The Tennessee Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery
The goal of the Tennessee Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (TSLMS) is to promote patient welfare and advance the science of laser technology in the health care professions. The Society was established for the purpose of maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards in the practice of laser medicine and surgery.
The pursuit of this goal by the Society is through the means of promoting an active exchange of information, encouraging research in both clinical and non-clinical fields and monitoring the use of lasers in the health professions. The Society is an amalgamation of engineers, scientists, technologists, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals.
One of the ways that we work to educate our members is through this blog. Multiple times a week we publish a piece like this one. The topics cover the latest news, innovations and opportunities for dermatologists and aestheticians that use lasers for their art and craft.
TSLMS also holds SCALE Music City, which provides an incredible level of opportunity to stay abreast of the latest trends and innovations.
SCALE Music City
The Premier Multidisciplinary Meeting for Aesthetic Medicine, Surgery and Dermatology in the United States. What started out as a small gathering 14 years ago has now blossomed into one of the true outstanding events in our space, which in 2019 featured upwards of 850 attendees and 125 industry vendors. Now we are making plans for 2020 and we want you front and center.
Drs. Brian Biesman and Michael Gold have the same vision for SCALE and we work all throughout the year to assure that when we arrive at “go-time” we have checked all the boxes, crossed every “T,” and dotted every ”I.”
There are any number of great reasons to attend SCALE 2020. Top of the list is the opportunity to network. Every professional club, school, and group in the world understands the benefits of networking these days.
Today networking has become an essential aspect of your job search. Even if you are well established in your job and have no plans of moving or advancing your career soon, networking has proven to be a valuable tool. Today, studies have shown that up to 80% of jobs are never advertised – they are filled by word of mouth. So it’s who you know and who knows you that matters. You must develop relationships and connections within your network to have more opportunities to advance your career. Attending meetings and social events hosted by your professional association is a great way to connect with people in your field. (Source).
Networking is not only important when you are thinking about career moves, but it is also a way to expand your current personal and professional circle. This can bring you referrals and build your practice. VeryWellHealth.com sums it up saying, “The more places you go, events you attend, and people you meet, the more successful your networking efforts will be.” In the aesthetic medicine community this is the event of 2019. In attendance will be the top doctors in the field and thousands of colleagues. This is the place to be seen and rub elbows.
Medical Journals and the News As Sources of Innovation Updates
There are a few trusted journals and news outlets that reliably publish information on the latest innovations in medical news and technology.
One of these is the Journal of Medical Research and Innovation. (The Journal of Medical Research and Innovation (JMRI) is an award-winning and open peer-reviewed journal which covers all aspects of Medicine including cellular biology, zoology and futuristic medicine (Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in medicine). The journal will feature original research, reviews, editorials, case studies, brief communications, opinions/views, poster presentations and audios & videos. This will be of interest to medical practitioners, clinical educators, nurse practitioners and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients.) This is a fantastic source, with very reliable information. The issue for some of us in the field is that this type of peer review, and then publication, takes a longer time than a new innovation does to hit the market.
This is why following the news, in addition to the best of peer review journals, is what we recommend. For this daily, up-to-date information we suggest that you follow a combination of Investors Business Daily and Science Daily. Both sites tap into the here-and-now in very contemporary and relevant terms.
