There are very few doctors out there who can claim so much success in their careers, as Dr. Pozner. The bio on his practice, Sanctuary Plastic Surgery, does a great job of touting this SCALE 2019 Music City’s broad list of accomplishments. He is a plastic surgeon, a graduate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and has served as a professor at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and as faculty at the Cleveland Clinic Florida Department of Plastic Surgery. His clinical practice is enormously successful in Boca Raton, Florida, as well. However we are most interested in introducing you to the man himself, through his own words.
Jason Pozner, MD, FACS, Dr of the Rich and Famous and Philanthropist
As noted on the SPS Boca website, Dr. Pozer is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. “He has been a consultant or investigator for many aesthetic companies and member of several advisory boards, including Sciton, Mentor, Bioform, Coapt, Medicis, Allergan and Ultrashape.”
Dr. Pozner graduated from Medical School with a Distinction in Research. “He trained for five years in an intensive general surgery residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He completed a Microsurgery Fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York and his Plastic Surgery residency at New York’s Downstate Medical Center. He completed an additional fellowship in aesthetic and endoscopic plastic surgery in Maryland where he was an assistant professor of Plastic Surgery at the esteemed Johns Hopkins Medical Center. He is currently adjunct clinical faculty at Cleveland Clinic Florida Department of Plastic Surgery.”
This ever popular faculty member is “the founder of the Sanctuary Plastic Surgery and co-owner of Sanctuary Medical Aesthetic Center in Boca Raton, Florida,” and is “a highly respected authority on both surgical and non-invasive plastic surgery techniques.” In 2013 he became famous for his presentation, which he has published online, “Creating Beauty in Boca.” Besides being highly recognized in the media for his skills, he is a very charitable man, giving generously to causes like the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure and the TriCounty Humane Society.
An Interview With Dr. Pozner
We caught up with the busy plastic surgeon and asked him a few questions. We have decided that he is one of the most fascinating members of the SCALE 2019 Music City faculty. Here is what he shared:
Q: Is this your first SCALE conference? If not, how many years have you attended as a participant? As a speaker?
A: I have attended a few and was a speaker last at SCALE 2018.
Q: What motivated you to go into your field?
A: I like challenges and thinking on my feet. In plastic surgery every case is different.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your work?
A: Most of my cases these days are secondary or revision cases. Challenging but fun.
Q: Is there a particularly compelling success story that you can share with us?
A: I love the long term results that we can see with laser resurfacing. I have patients 15 years out that still look great.
Q: What do you want the general public to know about what you do?
A: I like difficult cases and love to fix things!
Q: How do you relax, what are your hobbies?
A: Peloton and I work out about 5 days week. I have 7 large parrots and have had parrots for almost 30 years. Also, I like vintage watches, ferraris and guns!
Q: Looking back over the course of your career, what advice do you wish someone would have given you?
A: I got that advice in med school. Don’t do anything to anyone that you would not do to a family member. I think about that every day.
Q: Is there a particular case you wish would walk through your door?
A: I love difficult breast revision cases and luckily I see a bunch of these per week.
Q: As a doctor we know people are always asking your advice; what is the most bizarre question you ever received? What was your advice?
A: Nothing shocks me anymore after 20 years.
Q: When people come to the SCALE workshop or talk you are giving, what do you hope they take away from their time with you?
A: Passion for what we do. I am so happy when docs come up to me and say they bought something in the past because of my recommendation and are happy they did so.
Q: Looking into the future of your practice, what do you predict will be the trends and technology that emerge in the next 5 to 10 years? What are you and your practice doing to get ready for those?
A: Less invasive things are always coming. I keep my nose to the ground and am always searching these out. We are ready for any new technology and most likely will hear about them early.
Q: Is there anything else you want people to know about you or your practice?
A: Many people know me for lasers and minimally invasive technology. That is my research interest and I love helping develop new technology. What I do the rest of the time is revision plastic surgery. 70% of my busy surgical practice is revisions – lots of difficult breast, face and lipo cases. Challenging but fun.
We would like to hear from you: what questions do you have for Dr. Pozner? Do you want to know more about his parrots, or about his surgical techniques? The great news is that he is one of the most approachable speakers we will have – so make sure you catch him in person and follow the SCALE 2019 Music City website for updates. Full agenda details will be published soon.
